“The US Indo-Pacific Command was of great help in the repatriation of the remains of ROK troops”

On October 20, Minister of National Defense Suh Wook met with Philip Davidson, commander of United States (US) Indo-Pacific Command, visiting the Republic of Korea as part of his visit to the main allied nations, and discussed various alliance issues, as well as the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region.

“I highly appreciate the leadership of Commander Davidson, who has dedicated himself to maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region,” Suh said. “Specifically, I'd like to express my gratitude to the US Indo-Pacific Command for helping in the repatriation of the remains of the ROK troops discovered in North Korea last June.” “The ROK’s excellent response to the COVID-19 situation is contributing greatly to the stable stationing of the US Forces in Korea,” Davidson returned, congratulating Suh on his inauguration.

Sharing the opinion that the US Indo-Pacific Command plays an important role in achieving the complete denuclearization of and a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, Suh and Davidson agreed to “maintain a firm combined defense posture in order to militarily back up the joint diplomatic efforts of the two countries.” Earlier in the day, Davidson met with Won In-cheol, chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), at the JCS headquarters.
