The joint chiefs of staff held a "Joint Weapon System Introduction Meeting" for the first time this year at the national defense convention center on March 25.

The meeting was held quarterly to bring about a better understanding of fast-changing advanced scientific technology and weapon systems to the relevant military officials until last year, but now, with great support, it will be held every other month starting this year.

At this meeting aimed at companies in maneuvers, surveillance and reconnaissance, there were six domestic companies such as Poongsan, LIG NEX1, and Samyang Chemical and eight overseas ones including ADS, Germany, and RADA, Israel, showing 18 types of weapon systems.

About 300 people, including relevant fighting power officials from the military, research institutes and companies in the defense industry, and specialists in defense technology development, looked at actually-developed equipment and had some time ask questions of relevant company officials.

They also exchanged opinions about what weapon systems would be needed for our military through the discussion.

“Securing the most advanced fighting power comes before anything else to effectively deal with the unstable security situation and threats around the Korean Peninsula. Today’s introduction meeting is for coming face-to-face with developers and users to create the necessity of weapon system force, and it will be a good chance not only for fighting power growth but for a mutual synergy effect through information sharing and extension of exchange,” said Major General Ha Chang-ho, a head of fighting power planning, the joint chiefs of staff.
