Farewell and inaugural ceremony for the commanders of Dongmyeong unit in Lebanon


On August 9, the longest dispatched unit of the Korean army for UN‘s PKO missions, Dongmyeong unit, had the 9th and 10th farewell and inaugural ceremonies for the commanders of Dongmyeong unit arranged by Brigadier General Fabio Poli, the western brigadier of the UNIFIL, at the camp surrounding Tir, in the western area of Lebanon.


Attended by Korean Ambassador to Lebanon Choi Jong-il, Mayor of Tir union Al Husseini and other important figures in the Lebanese army, the ceremony was held to honor the hard work of the 9th commander, departing Colonel Jung Hae-il, and to welcome Colonel Ham Nam-gyu, the 10th commander who is beginning his command.


During his farewell speech, Colonel Jung, who has successfully completed his 9-month mission to lead the soldiers of the 14th Dongmyeong unit, praised all of them for their hard work. He appreciated their unity and devotion to promote peace in Lebanon, and the pride that they showed as representatives of Korea. He also prayed for peace in Lebanon.


Then Colonel Ham, who will take command of the 15th Dongmyeong unit for the next 8 months as the 10th commander, asked the soldiers during his speech to strive, on the foundation Dongmyeong unit has established over last 7 years, to be the best unit of the UNIFIL and give hope to local residents.
