Vice Minister of National Defense Baek Seung-joo met Vietnamese Defense Vice Minister Nguyen-ChiVinh in Hanoi, Vietnam, on July 21, and signed an MOU regarding information protection at the third defense strategy dialogue.

With this MOU, both countries agreed to protect each other‘s information exchanged during military cooperation in accordance with home information management. And, it means the establishment of a legal and institutional base for further exchange and cooperation enhancement between the two.

Both vice ministers also shared their opinions about the situations in the Korean peninsula and the East Asian region as well as had an in-depth discussion about strengthening national defense cooperation between both countries such as support for a blind shell and mine removal project, PKO and cyber security cooperation.

Vice Minister Baek made an official call on Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh and agreed to step up the follow-up cooperation measures in the military field based on a mutual friendly cooperative relationship advanced with the Korea-Vietnam Summit held last September. He especially explained our conception for unification security including the Northeast Asian Peace Cooperation concept and the declaration of Dresden, asking for Vietnam’s support.
