Korea-Paraguay defense ministries conclude an MOU expecting goodwill

and strengthening of exchange between both countries

 

 

 

 

 

Korea and Paraguay have entered into an MOU to enhance cooperation in the area of national defense.

 

Minister of National Defense Han Min-koo had a conversation with Paraguayan Defense Minister Diogenes Martinez at the MND office building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on Jan. 6, and signed the ‘Korea-Paraguay MOU on national defense cooperation.’ This MOU comprehensively specifies principles, areas and methods for defense cooperation between the two countries, and is a basic agreement that can serve as a foundation for future development. Korea has entered into MOUs and/or agreements in the defense field with 37 countries. Paraguay is the fourth Latin country Korea has done this with, following agreements with Brazil, Peru and Colombia. The two defense ministers exchanged opinions about the security situation around the Korean Peninsula and the Central and South American area, and discussed plans to promote national defense and defense industry cooperation.

 

Paraguay supported Korea's reconstruction through UNKRA (United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency) in August, 1954, following the 6·25 Korean War. It is a traditional allied nation that has supported our government's policy towards North Korea, and has been developing a cooperative relationship with Korea focused on the economic area.

 

Minister Martinez visited Korea on Jan. 5 and is going to leave on the 8th, after an official schedule that includes paying his respects at the National Cemetery, a conversation with the Minister of Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and visits to defense industries.

 

“This Korea-Paraguay Ministers’ conversation was a milestone in revitalizing cooperation between our two countries in the defense and security fields, while strengthening friendly relations,” said an MND spokesperson.
