Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup visits the UAE to encourage the Akh Unit

On February 19, while attending a Korea-UAE defense ministerial meeting in the United Arab Emirates, Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup also made a visit to the Akh Unit. The Akh Unit is a South Korean military unit that has been sent to the UAE.

During a meeting with the soldiers, Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup expressed his admiration for their commitment to serving in a foreign country far from their home. He commended their hard work, which he believed symbolizes the strong partnership and collaboration between South Korea and the UAE.

The UAE requested military training cooperation in 2011, which led to the deployment of the Akh Unit. Since then, the unit has played a vital role in enhancing the UAE's military capabilities and improving the special operation capabilities of the South Korean military. This has been achieved through the education and training of the UAE special operations unit, as well as combined training exercises between the two countries.
