Strengthened Korea-U.S. joint response to cyber threats

 
 
Defense Ministries of Korea and the U.S. have made the first working-level step to jointly respond to cyber threats.

The two defense ministries held the first Korea-U.S. National Defense Cyber Cooperation Working Group (CCWG) in Seoul on February 7.

There were around 60 attendees of cyber security-related defense and government officials, including Director General for Policy Planning of the MND, Jang Hyuk, and Deputy Assistant Secretary representative of the U.S. Defense Ministry, John Davis.

It was an opportunity for the two countries to share information about cyber threats and enhance the all-around cooperation of cyber policy, strategy, doctrine, personnel and training.

To achieve effective results from the first CCWG meeting, the two delegations operated the TTX training, which identifies weaknesses related to cyber crisis response and draws a specific cooperation plan based on virtual cyber attack scenarios prior to the meeting on February 6.

Amid mounting cyber threats around the world, Defense Ministries of Korea and the U.S. entered into a contract to organize the CCWG in September 2013, with support from both Defense Ministers at the SCM (Security Consultative Meeting) last year.
