Promote friendship between Korea and the U.S. through joint volunteer work

The Korea-U.S. Navy cemented their friendship through joint volunteer work as warm as spring sunshine.

Sailors of Choi Young Ham, a Korea destroyer (DDH-II), and Yeosu Ham, a patrol ship, put their neighborliness into practice with those of Lake Erie, a Ticonderoga cruiser of the U.S. Navy, on March 22.

Korean and U.S. sailors visited Mugunghwa and Uam silver hall in Nam-gu, Busan, and worked up a sweat while completely removing old dirt collected in every nook and corner of the facilities. Providing pleasant living conditions for the elderly, they also presented lasting recollections to grandfathers and grandmothers who are lonely by massaging and talking with them.

“It was a rewarding time in which I could feel Korea’s warm heart through this volunteer work. I’ll keep trying my level best to improve cooperative exchange with the Korea Navy,” said Captain John S. Banigan of Lake Erie.

Meanwhile, Lake Erie is equipped with an AEGIS combat system. It has been put in at Busan operating base since March 19, after its Foal Eagle training.
