Norwegian Defense Logistic Organization opens a field office in Korea

As Daewoo Heavy Industries is to export a naval logistic support vessel to Norway, the Norwegian Defense Logistic Organization decided to open a field office in Okpo, Korea, by this summer.

On March 3, the Norway Embassy announced that Kristian Uines, a site manager, arrived in Korea on February 24 for a week-long visit to prepare for the opening of the field office.

This field office opened by Norwegian DLO follows the contract that was made last June in which Daewoo will build a logistics vessel by September 2016. This would be the first time that Norway Defense has entered into such a large-scale contract with Korea.

Site Manager Uines said, “The logistics vessel we ordered from Korea would be much larger than five combined frigates we now possess as well as the biggest among vessels that the Norwegian Navy has. We will cooperate closely with Daewoo for every process from vessel design to construction.”

Related to the opening of the field office, Sigbjorn Tenfjord, the Norwegian charge d'áffaires, showed his satisfaction that Norway and Korea are to engage in this field closely together.

Tenfjord, who also doubles as a Norway officer in the United Nations Command, said, “Norway was in the Korean War, and Norway and Korea became very close friends to each other since then. It is very natural for our two countries to cooperate in the security and defense field.”
