In perfect order: Detect, track and shoot down man-portable anti-aircraft missile target drone

On November 6, Air defense company, the 2nd Marine Division, held a live fire training with a man-portable air guided weapon at Anheung shooting range located at the Agency for Defense Development, Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do.

This training was planned to not only master the anti-aircraft live firing procedures, but also to develop the ability for initial actions and self-confidence.

For mastering actual actions that correspond to missions, the unit used a manless target drone disguised as the enemy fighter, and the operating soldiers detected, tracked and shot it down in perfect order. They fired three shots from the man-portable anti-aircraft missile, Shingung and Mistral, while complying with a line of command. They brought the manless target drone down at a height of 4-5 km.

“We’ve actually stuck the target drone for this training, and I believe it was a good opportunity to discover our shortcomings and verify our unit’s fighting power during the entire process, from identification to shooting down when an enemy provokes us. We will always deal with enemy provocation rapidly, accurately and completely,” said Major Gong Won-Bae, the commander of the air defense company.
