Nineteen Special Air Force Rescue Team(S.A.R.T.) members of the ROKAF 6th Search & Rescue Air Group (Colonel Kim Dong-ha, commander) held a training for 14-2 combat survival and mountain search and rescue in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, for five days beginning on September 27.

The training started with an ejected fighter pilot in the middle of enemy territory.

To postulate conditions like an actual fight, the training was conducted by designating survivors, opposing forces and a rescue team.

Survivors made a move to outrun the opposing forces, the virtual enemy, to meet the rescue team, then the rescue team safely extricated the survivors from the enemy territory with HH-60 search and rescue aircraft.

The training covers a variety of techniques necessary for survival and search & rescue in mountainous areas such as day and night tactical movement, escaping from enemy territory, building a hideout, etc.

“The 6th Search & Rescue Air Group S.A.R.T has been improving mission capability through this actual fighting-like training. We will do our best not to lose even one single survivor,” said Warrant Officer Kang Yong-soo, the commander of the 2nd squadron of S.A.R.T.
