Cooperation schemes in the field of national security and defense industry discussed

The Ministry of National Defense holds the fifth Korea-Uzbekistan working-level talks for National Defense Policy in Seoul on November 27.

Brigadier General Park Cheol-Gyun, the deputy head of the International Policy Division, MND, and Director Saidahmatov from the International Defense and Military Technology Cooperation Bureau, Uzbekistan Defense Department, attended at the talks as representatives from each country.

Through the meeting, Korean MND explained the security situation surrounding Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula, the current situation of North Korea, our plans for Northeast peace cooperation and policy toward North Korea, while the Uzbekistan Defense Department introduced its government’s efforts in regard to the security situation in Central Asia and for world peace and stability.

Various plans for improving cooperation in the national security and defense field were particularly discussed, which was part of the “cooperation intensification in a variety of fields” agreed upon at a summit meeting between the two Presidents, Park Geun-Hye and Islam Karimov, in June 2014.

Since the first working-level talks for national defense policy were held in Seoul in 2009, it has been held annually having reciprocal visits. And the joint committee for defense and logistics cooperation has been established and operated since 2012.
