Checking on UN operations to share the recent trends of IS forces

The West brigade, the subordinate force of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), held a commanders’ meeting at Dongmyeong unit’s post on January 10.


The meeting, organized by the West brigade commander, Brigadier General Del Col, was attended by commanders from five subordinate forces of the West brigade, Dongmyeong unit, Italy, Malaysia, Ghana and Finn Island, and relevant officials of each unit to check on operations for UN mission completion and discuss development plans.


Assistant chief of staff for intelligence of the West brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Bellini, gave an explanation about the recent trend of IS forces, Islamic armed groups, situations of neighboring countries and major threats around the operation area. Commanders in each unit presented their main operations and training accomplishments.


Meanwhile, Colonel Ham Nam-Gyu, Dongmyeong unit’s commander, made a presentation about the result of operations conducted recently such as fixed surveillance operations, force protection training, combined training with a French unit, etc. He especially attracted attention from other units by presenting acase evaluated as the best at Battalion Mobile Reserve(BMR) inspection conducted by the West brigade.


Commander Ham said, “I am glad to have the first commanders’ meeting in 2015 at the Dongmyeong unit. I hope all the nations under UNIFIL cooperate with each other and complete the UN operations to bring peace and stability to Lebanon.”
