[Aviation Operations Command] Fly like a Butterfly, Sting like a Bee

With a roar, a helicopter, the Cobra, AH-1S, took off just like the sun announcing the new year.

The Cobra blew target points to bits with rockets and missiles flying along the ridge. Right after, a Black Hawk, UH-60, followed and special warfare soldiers swept the enemy’s position after climbing down a rappel.

The Aviation Operations Command(AOC) had a field training exercise(FTX) at Biseung shooting range in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeoggi-do, with the ROK Army Special Operations Command on December 29.

The training was composed of assuming a virtual enemy who tried to terrorize national key facilities, and destroying the enemy.

It was planned to check the readiness of aviation and special fighting power and harden their will for protecting our country.

The training started with Cobra, our military‘s main helicopter, conducting an aviation search. It circled the air along the mountain and when it spotted an enemy, it started to overpower the enemy with rockets and a 20mm vulcan.

With a flash of light, the rocket hit the target straight with pinpoint accuracy. And the firing continued while moving forward in an S shape to avoid the enemy’s antiaircraft weapon.

After the Cobra devastated the target area with powerful firepower, the Black Hawk and Chinook, CH-47, followed. They contained special warfare soldiers to be input on the ground to destroy the remnants of the enemy.

When arriving at the target area, they climbed down a rappel and promptly launched mop-up operations. Our aviation and special fighting power demonstrated its dignity once again through this training.

A relevant official of AOC who planned this training said, “An eventful year is passing by but the security environment around us is still uncertain. We could harden our will to destroy an enemy in the New Year through this training.”
