The Recruit Training Center (RTC) of the 30th Army Division had an extreme situation overcoming training to develop the commanding and controlling ability for squad commanders-to-be.

The training is carried out to develop a strong will to win, comradeship and teamwork under an extreme situation without any break for two days without rest, which pushes physical and mental limits. After the opening ceremony conducted by the chief of the RTC, trainees moved to the training ground and completed seven tasks such as foray into an enemy communication station and enemy tank battalion command post, starting with foray into an enemy ammunition depository.

In order to force them to the wall, food service per individual is provided at a minimum so that they must capture the food from the enemy. In addition, the training consisted of actual fighting situations in which they could get additional food when arriving at an appointed spot within a time limit through detecting directions and overcoming the geographical features using map reading.

There were well-prepared safety measures as well. They prepared for emergency situations by learning first aid and danger prediction training. There was also an emergency medical support system connecting the closest medical corps and civil hospitals. Corporal Han Seung-Je, a trainee, said, “It was a good chance to learn how to survive in an extreme situation like an actual combat field as well as crisis overcoming ability as a squad commander.”
