Vice Minister Baek, ask Peru’s attention to export of FA-50

Vice Minister of the MND, Baek Seung-Joo, was decorated with the Grand Cross of the Air Force, the highest honor in Peru’s national defense area, by the Government of Peru on February 2 (local time).

This conferment was made by the government of Peru to Vice Minister Baek for visiting Peru to promote defense cooperation for both countries, such as follow-ups after the successful delivery of the first and second KT-1P, Korean Trainer, last October. The Grand Cross of Air Force is the highest honor the Government of Peru confers on domestic and overseas military personnel.

General Dante Arevalo Abate, the air command, said, “Defense Vice Minister Baek has made an effort to strengthen national defense cooperation between Korea and Peru. And before that, as a researcher working at Institute for Defense Analyses for 23 years, he accumulated various achievements for improvement in the defense field. Hereupon, we confer this medal to him.”

He also mentioned that cooperation in the national defense area, such as the KT-1P project, has been performed without a hitch based on trust built between both governments, and he hoped for further cooperation in various areas.

Vice Minister Baek said, “This honor meant a lot to me as I received it by friendship and trust. I’m looking forward to growing together with close defense cooperation between both countries.”

Meanwhile, he urged Peru’s Air Force to pay active attention to Korean companies that participate in ongoing purchasing business of the multi-purpose jet trainer. Korea Aerospace Industries(KAI) will join in the light attack aircraft-purchasing business of Peru with FA-50 and submit the proposal this month.
