Defense minister meets with Ghana

On April 21, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement that Minister Suh Wook met with Charis Obetsebi-Lamptey Zwennes, Ghana's ambassador to the Republic of Korea (ROK), at the main building of the ministry, located in Yongsan, Seoul, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen defense cooperation.

At the meeting, Suh and Zwennes agreed to continue defense cooperation related to maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea (West Africa).

“ROK and Ghana have been steadily conducting bilateral visits of top-level officials since diplomatic relations were established in November 1977,” Suh said, stressing that “the cooperation between the Cheonghae Unit, which conducts operations in West African waters, and the Ghanian authorities established last June has provided an opportunity to break new ground for defense cooperation.”

Suh also asked for the Ghanian vice defense minister’s participation in the Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD), slated to be held this September. Responding to Suh, Zwennes expressed his gratitude and promised active discussion on the visit of top-level Ghanian officials.
