On February 27, the Army Special Warfare Command held the eighth memorial ceremony for the late Staff Sergeant Yun Jang-Ho, who was killed in 2007 in a suicide bombing by the Taliban while he was dispatched to Afghanistan. It was organized by Commander Jeon In-Beom at the International Peace Corps(IPC), and attended by around 200 people, including the bereaved of the late Staff Sergeant, the Afghan Ambassador Mohammad Saleem Sayeb, soldiers of the 16th Dongmyeong Unit that will take a shift, etc., to pay their respects to him.

It was first time the memorial service has been held at IPC. The special forces erected a memorial stone within the IPC in June and held the ceremony there for the first time this year.

Afghan Ambassador Mohammad offered words of consolation to the family of the deceased, saying that he would never forget the late Staff Sergeant Yun’s noble sacrifice. And he also said that peace will come in Afghanistan at last, which the great soldier strived for with all his strength.

The late Yun joined the Army in 2004 while in Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky and volunteered for dispatch to Afghanistan in September 2006. He was killed in the following year due in the suicide bombing by the Taliban. The Joint Chiefs of Staff promoted him one rank, from Sergeant to Staff Sergeant, and awarded him the Inheon Order of Military Merit. He was laid to rest in the National Memorial Board in 2007.
