The Korea Marine Corps and U.S. 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force(Ⅲ-MEF) maximized combined mission capability through a wargaming simulation connected with Key Resolve (KR).

Both Marines developed the Command Post Exercise (CPX), Combined Marine Component Command (CMCC) in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Osan, Gyeonggi-do, and Okinawa, Japan.

Both commanders, Lieutenant General Lee Young-joo and John E. Wissler, had a signing event for the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which gives shape to specific procedures for mission, organization and operation of CMCC CPX and combined battle staff.

The newly-issued SOP is being applied to around 2,200 soldiers including major commanders and staff participating in the exercise.

CMCC and the major subordinate echelon moved to Pohang and Okinawa in advance and installed the command post. They have built up a real-time network, C4I, with a simulated response team in Yongsan, Seoul, and have been practicing with various scenarios.

Korean and American Marine commanders and staff are putting much work into the organization of the CMCC and classification of its specific missions. They also demonstrate the firmness of the Korea-U.S. alliance through planning for operations, mission procedure, and verification of mutual tactical command and communications system interoperability.

They have especially raised the exercise result by keeping a sharp readiness posture with the current operations command and control system and emergency transportation.

“This is an opportunity to verify the best combined mission capability with the perfectly organized Korea-U.S. Marine staff. Both Marines have reaffirmed that they are a critical fighting force for the defense of the Korean Peninsula and core of the Korea-U.S. alliance,” said Commander Lee. After the CMCC-CPX, the Korean and U.S. Marines are going to develop the actual field training exercise for defending the Korean Peninsula in Pohang at the end of this month.
