Incheon Ham departs for IMDEX
Largest scale in Asia … held in Singapore May 19 to 21

Our Navy’s most capable vessel in the 2,500-ton class, Incheon Ham, the Guided Missile Frigate (FFG), departed the Busan base of operation on May 11 for the International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference (IMDEX) to be held in Changi port, Singapore.

It is first time our Navy has dispatched the FFG to the international defense exhibition.

IMDEX is the largest maritime defense exhibition and conference in Asia held in alternate years, and for three days this year, May 19 to 21.

The Navy dispatched a delegation, including Rear Admiral Yun Jung-sang, submarine commander, and Incheon Ham. Other vessels from 13 countries such as the U.S., China, Russia, Australia, etc., also participate in the exhibition. The Navy is going to actively promote our superior defense ability as well as make a contribution to its export increase at the exhibition. Moreover, it will focus on military exchange cooperation and friendship promotion through opening a vessel, a reception on board and multinational sea training.

The first FFG, Incheon Ham, was deployed in 2013. It is equipped with a domestic-developed combat system, new three-dimensional radar, short-range antiair missile (RAM), antiship guided missile, torpedo, 5-inch naval gun, etc. It can also carry a Lynx, and its speed is 30 knots (55.5km/h). One hundred twenty sailors on board carry out defense of responsible waters, securement of maritime control and protection of sea lanes.

Incheon Ham will return home at the end of this month after the multinational sea training to cope with disaster, accident and antipiracy operations.
