The 38th Maritime Patrol Aircraft Committee Meeting (MPACM), marking its 20th year, has come to a successful conclusion.

The meeting, held by the 6th Air Wing at the 615 squadron in Jeju from May 6 to 8, was attended by around 30 Korea and U.S. Navy officials including Rear Admiral Yu Sung-hoon, commander of the 6th Air Wing, and Captain Michael Parker, commanding officer of the patrol and reconnaissance wing (CTF-72), the U.S. 7th Fleet.

MPACM started at the proposal of CTF-72 as our Navy introduced the maritime patrol aircraft, P-3C, in 1995. Both sides hold the meeting twice a year in turn, devoting themselves to development of combined mission capability.

The 6th Air Wing presented the P-3 mission completion result of destruction operation of the Maritime Counter Special Operation Force (MCSOF), effective ASW aircraft operation schemes, and performance and lessons of overseas dispatched P-3.

And CFT-72 introduced torpedo attack tactics of maritime patrol and maintenance plans during an overseas dispatch period.

The Korean and U.S. Navies also had a discussion to raise maritime patrol operation capability, especially regarding improvement of operation capability and maintenance when P-3 is dispatched overseas.

CTF-72 particularly gave praise to our Navy for 20 years with no accidents since the introduction of the P-3.

“The meeting was a meaningful time for the Korea-U.S. Navy to raise combined operation capability. Not only sharing know-how for antisubmarine operations for enemy submarine destruction, but also to contribute to promoting friendly military cooperation,” said commander Yu.
