On June 12, the Korea-U.S. navies announced the completion of the combined mobile construction training developed for a month in Yokjido, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongnam, achieving improvement in expedition missions.

The training focused on sharing know-how about mobile construction operations, and the installation battalion of the Naval Operations Command, the installation flotilla of the Jinhae Naval Base Command and the U.S. Naval Fifth Mobile Construction Battalion participated in this training.

It was performed aiming to improve combined mobile construction ability according to the establishment of the U.S. Naval Expedition operation supporting unit, CTF-75, in July last year.

Mobile construction is to develop damage restoration and building operations at remote areas where the ‘installation unit’ is not deployed. This was performed in Yokjido whose infrastructure is relatively poor.

The training started with loading and transferring construction machinery such as containers, excavators, and trucks to multi-purpose landing craft utility(LCU) on May 7.

The Korean and U.S. navies worked on off-road concrete pavement, guardrail installation, repair of worn-out facilities, and connection of a water distribution system, etc. to improve the operating road that both local residents and soldiers can use.

They verified their combat service support and marine transport ability such as materials resupply and military quarters as well as identified the effectiveness of the Korea-U.S. information sharing system using a satellite communication network.

The Korea and U.S. navies cooperated not only on the training, but also worked with sweat running down them to serve the public’s welfare. Korean sailors have done facilities maintenance, vehicle assistance for waste treatment transfer, and house-cleaning of senior citizens who live alone.

And, the U.S. sailors managed English classes after school 3 times a week for 24 students of the Wonryang elementary school. This 4-week class wrapped up with the performance of English play full of gratitude.
