A Korea-U.S. joint working group (JWG) will visit a bio examination room at the U.S. Osan base for follow-up investigation regarding the accidental delivery of Bacillus anthracis on August 6.
 
The JWG held its first meeting at the Ministry of Defense on July 29 and discussed future plans including a field investigation of the Osan base. The meeting was organized by a Korean group leader, Major General Jang Kyeong-soo, a defense policy planning officer, and a U.S. group leader, Major General Robert Hedlund of the Marine Corps, assistant chief of staff, and was attended by 33 representatives from 12 organizations, such as the Korean Ministry of Defense, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade Industry and Energy, Office of Customs Administration, etc., and civilian experts, and 12 Americans from the U.S. armed forces in Korea and Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD).
 
The JWG consisted of  “field technical evaluation team” and “bio-defence cooperation procedure team,” and the former team will supervise this field investigation of Osan base. The JWG will verify and evaluate the entire process of the accident.
