An advance team of the Eighth United States Army(EUSA) moved to Pyeongtaek

Starting  with the move an advance team of the 8Eighth United States Army to the Pyeongtaek base, the US army at the Yongsan bast has begun its move in earnest.

On May 18, the United States Forces in Korea(USFK) Base Relocation Office announced that they would support the transfer of troops from the Eighth United States Army at the Yongsan base, as the construction of its building at the Pyeongtaek base completed.

Since 2013, there have been company and battalion class transfers of troops, such as the 94th Military Police Battalion, the 501 Signal Company, etc. However, the move of the staff personnel of the Eighth United States Army, the key commanding facility of the U.S. forces in Korea, is the first time.

A total of 300 members of the advance team started to gradually move to the Pyeongtaek base this May; the transfer will continue until February of next year to prepare for Korea-U.S. combined training initiatives, such as the security mission and the Key Resolve(KR)/Foal Eagle(FE) exercise. It is planned to welcome the main force which will move in the first half of next year.

The construction project of Pyeongtaek base has been completed up to 89% as planned, and around 560 construction firms have employed approximately 8,000 workers each day. It is expected that most units, including the U.S. Armed Forces in Korea(USAFIK), will be transferred by 2017.
