Republic of Korea and Poland hold defense ministerial meeting

Korean and Polish defense ministers had a meeting to talk about cooperation in defense and defense industry

Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup met with Polish Vice Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak on February 23 to discuss security situations in Europe and the Korean Peninsula, and to explore possibilities for defense and defense industry collaboration between Korea and Poland.

Minister Lee and Vice Prime Minister Blaszczak concurred to enhance the defense and defense industry cooperation between Korea and Poland, as they had decided to extend and intensify a strategic partnership between the two countries at a summit in June of the previous year.

The two ministers evaluated the impact of large-scale defense industry contracts signed last year, as well as the delivery of the initial batch of products. They concluded that these actions enabled Poland to reinforce and modernize its combat power while Korea attained the growth of its defense industry. They concurred to undertake appropriate measures based on the firm trust established between the two nations.

Following the meeting, Minister Lee and Vice Prime Minister Blaszczak observed the test firing of K-9 self-propelled howitzers at an artillery firing range in Torun.

The K-9 howitzer test-fired ammunition produced by a Polish company and the test's success demonstrated the exceptional capabilities of the Korean weapons system, making it deployable worldwide.
