Cooperative atmosphere against the North Korea is spread among the ASEAN countries

Vice Defense Minister Hwang In-moo will make an official visit to Cambodia and Laos from June 27 to July 1.

The MND said, “Vice Minister Hwang would be the highest-ranked figure in our Defense Department's history who ever visited Cambodia and Laos. We are expecting to convey our intent to strengthen defense cooperation with these two nations.”

To begin, Vice Minister Hwang will hold Vice-Minister-level talks with the Cambodian Vice Minister of Defense to discuss mutually beneficial agendas, such as plans to promote national defense cooperation, military education interchange, the strengthening of PKO capability and counterterrorism, and so on between both countries.

In Laos, he will meet with the Defense Permanent Deputy Minister to share ideas about policy applications on national defense cooperation. He will also talk about pitching in with the disposal of mines and unexploded bombs - issues that are of great interest to Cambodia and Laos.

He will make an official call to top-level figures of visiting countries, including the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Supreme Commander of Cambodia, as well as the Defense Minister and Foreign Minister of Laos to request mutual assistance to respond to North Korean nuclear issues, and faithful implementation of the UN Security Council's resolution on North Korea.

“This will bear abundant fruit in spreading cooperation in the region to counter North Korea by visiting the nation that is currently serving as the ASEAN dialogue coordinator, Cambodia, and the ASEAN chairman country, Laos,” said an MND official.
