Request for continuous backing of and support for a Korea-US alliance

On June 27, the MND held a presentation on national defense policy for American academics, and requested continuous backing of and support for a Korea-US alliance.

The personnel who were invited are participating in the ‘TF of policy towards China’, which consists of a civil think tank that will suggest future directions for the next US administration’s policy toward China.

The MND explained our national defense policy including the security circumstances surrounding the Korean Peninsula and our policy toward North Korea, and outlined Republic of Korea’s contributions to the Korea-US alliance. The Chief of the Office of Planning and Coordination at the Defense Ministry, Ryu Je-seung - a host of this event - expressed his hope that these talks would serve as a chance to better understand the severe security circumstances surrounding the Korean Peninsula and the importance of the Korea-US alliance.

On this issue, Orville Schell, the Director of the Center on US-China Relations of the Asia Society and the  co-chairman of policy TF toward China, said, “I think highly of the Korean government's efforts to keep peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. We will fully support a stable Korea-US alliance, so that it can be stronger than ever before.”
