[Navy] Another Myeongnyang Battle in sight

‘Myeongnyang Battle Festival’ supported, including a parade of vessels at sea

The Navy provided its full support to the ‘2016 Myeongnyang Battle Festival,’ which was held in various tourist spots in Usuyeong, Haenam-gun, and Nokjin, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, from September 2 to 4, highlighting how the Navy is working together with the people.

Organized by the incorporated foundation, Myeongnyang Battle Commemoration Service Association, the festival was the largest yet, featuring the full support of the Navy, with the slogan: ‘Immortal Myeongnyang! Patriotic Uldolmok!’

The Navy upgraded its festival offerings, which consisted of various programs including demonstrations and parades of naval military music, as well as the guard of honor. There was also a special performance by the promotions unit, a photo exhibition of the Navy and Marine Corps, a dressing experience, etc. during this festival. In addition, there were spectacular parades held on the sea, which is connected by the Jindo bridge and Byeokpajin, that featured several high-speed boats, patrol boats, and rigid inflatable boats (RIB). In the air, there were several naval aircrafts, including the LYNX and UH-60. A reenactment of the Myeongnyang Battle was held especially for this event, which was a highlight of the festival; around 100 sailors of the 3rd Naval Fleet and 300 local residents participated, animatedly recreating the Myeongnyang battle, where 13 Joseon vessels and 133 Japanese vessels had fought hard. All participants received an ovation.

Moreover, various promotional booths held a wide variety of events, such as photo exhibitions of the Navy and Marine Corps conducting security operations, displays of Ship Salvage Unit (SSU) equipment, a naval and marine corps dressing experience, commemorative photography with naval characters, delivery of naval souvenirs, and so on. These events were all held by the 3rd Naval Fleet to provide visitors with the chance to experience the Navy and Marine Corps.
