“Never faltered in their commitment to defend our territorial waters”

The Navy held a ceremony to mark the 71st anniversary of its foundation on November 11, and strengthened its resolution to ‘defense Korea's territorial waters’.

The Navy Headquarters had the celebration at the main hall, Gyerongdae, hosted by President Eom Hyun-sung. There were sailors and civilian workers at the navy headquarters as well as chiefs of staff from many different eras, including the 7th Admiral Ham Myung-soo and 8th Kim Young-gwan, as well as Deputy Commander in Chief of the Marine Corps, Major General Jeon Jin-ku.

President Eom, in his congratulatory address, said, “We need to concentrate on defeating the enemy no matter what circumstances are, make the unit strong, and behave with dignity in front of the people. Let’s help the Navy and Marine Corps to show their true selves as they protect Korea with noble sacrifice and devotion, by making a ‘victory navy’ that terminates the enemy when they provoke us, and wins instantly, a ‘strong navy’ in which the leaders and the followers communicate and trust each other, and a ‘dignified and reliable navy’ that people trust and love.”

Meanwhile, all the naval units including the naval operations command remembered the significance of the navy's foundation through the 71st anniversary ceremony and invitational lectures about security, and resolved to strive to protect the territorial waters. As well, a vessel-opening and unit-opening event were held to remind the people of the meaning of the Navy.
