Mongolia “supports nuclear and missile deterrence against North Korea”

On December 7th, the 8th Korea-Mongolia Working-level Defense Policy Meeting was held in Seoul.

Deputy Chief of International Policy Bureau at the MND, Park Chul-gyun sits with Mongolian Director of External Affairs, Brigadier General Sosorbaram as the chief delegate at this annual working-level meeting, at which the two defense ministries discuss cooperation in defense exchange.

Both Korean and Mongolian delegates assessed the regional security situation, including the North Korean nuclear and missile threats etc., and shared views about further cooperative development strategy including the participation of the Korean Army in the Khaan-Quest exercise being held in Mongolia and more.

The Korean army has participated in Khaan-Quest, a multinational military exercise held on training grounds near Ulan Bator, Mongolia, every year since 2006. An MND official said, “This meeting helped us to gain a full support from Mongolia in responding to the North Korean nuclear and missile threats, as well as to improve cooperation between our two countries in the area of defense exchanges.”
