  “Creative individuals, the lanterns to the future of our national defense”

 
Ministry of National Defense and Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (hereinafter referred to as MSIP) held ‘Imagination Breaking a Frame with People, the 2nd Creative Defense Idea Contest’ finals at Taegeuk hall, Defense Convention in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on November 29.

The event was arranged for civilian and military personnel for idea development in the defense policy development area and defense-related venture area.

544 ideas in total were submitted, and 20 teams (in 10 teams for different each area) presented various ideas for defense development in the finals.

The MND and MSIP formed a panel of judges with 10 experts in each area. They selected 1 grand prize, 2 excellence prizes and 3 participation prizes through an impartial judging process that considered creativity, feasibility, concreteness, effectiveness etc..

Dr. Kwon Tae-young at Korea Research Institute for Strategy, the foreman of the judging panel in the area of defense policy idea said, “I was very touched by the many wonderful suggestions. Creative talents and ideas will brighten the future of our national defense, as well as the future of Korea.”

An MND official said, “This contest has significance as a collaboration with the MSIP for extending civic participation in the national defense area. It will become a new model for defense development that people and the military pursue together.”

The MND and MSIP are planning to expand the public participation through the ‘Open Innovation’ approach to discovering defense policy ideas using advanced technology.
