On March 8, the ROKAF Air Defense Artillery Command (AFDAC) announced that they will start comprehensive tactical training 2017 to develop their skill in the tactics and techniques required of an air defense artillery unit.

The training is a 4-day actual tactical training program, during which all the air defense artillery units scattered around the country will deploy into the Yeoju tactical training site.

The whole Hawk artillery units, subordinate forces of AFDAC, are going to participate in the comprehensive tactical training for 2017, and from this month to November, will deploy into the ‘Yeoju Tactical Training Site’ to receive the training.

Participating units will focus on acquainting themselves with mission procedures during war, such as a ‘Deployment Training’ of moving and installing equipment, such as launch ramps, radars, operations control center, etc., and ‘Air Defense Training’ utilizing actual tracks, which will enhance their air defense mission capability.

The Yeoju tactical training site, where the training will be conducted, is a comprehensive training site which has an environment similar to that of an actual combat field and is completely equipped with the various equipment needed for the training.

Since the AFDAC opened the Yeoju tactical training site in 2013, it has established and operated the control center, actively supporting the training of the air defense artillery units under the command.

Lieutenant Colonel Kang Hyun-min, the training chief who planned the training, said, “We are including electronic warfare training in the comprehensive tactical training for the first time, and now, we’re considering the participation of ‘Cheongung’ artillery unit under force integration next year. We’ll establish a medium-term and long-term comprehensive tactical training development plan, and promote the training systematically”.
