[51st Army Division] FIFA U-20 World Cup, ‘Security Clear’

Perfect cooperation from the military-police beginning, cultivating capability to secure Golden Time

51st Army Division reported that on March 2, military-police joint anti-terrorism training was held at Suwon World Cup Stadium, in preparation for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Football Match in this May.

This training was held to check the military readiness posture, considering that North Korea has increased its level of terroristic threats, and to cultivate military-police joint operation ability.

It started with a report that unidentified white powder was found at the stadium. The police who received the report asked the rapid response team of the CBR (Chemical, Biological, and Radiological) supporting unit of Republic of Korea Army 51th Division, to move and control the starting point. The CBR rapid response team went to the starting point and conducted reconnaissance and decontamination around the contaminated area. The whole situation ended when the police arrested the criminal responsible for the unidentified powder, and removed the remaining powder.

Major Hwang Hyun-tae, chief of the CBR supporting unit, said, “Building a perfect cooperative system between the military and police at the early stage is very important, as the damage would be huge if we lost the golden time in a terror situation. We’ll do our best to maintain our terror readiness posture for regional security”.
