“Must defend the East Sea and the NLL”



The 13th Combat Battalion of the First Naval Command Fleet (commanded by Rear Admiral ParkGi-kyung) held intensive maritime training sessions to enhance combat readiness that involved protecting the East Sea and the Northern Limit Line for 3 days, from April26th to 28th.

 

The training was conducted with 11 naval fleets including a destroyer (DDH-I, 3,200-ton), a patrol combat corvette (PCC, 1,000-ton), a guided missile patrol gun boat (PKG, 400-ton) and a high-speed patrol boat (PKM, 130-ton) among others, as well as aircraft such as the Wildcat(AW-159), naval Lynx helicopters and P-3 naval patrol planes. The live training session consists of naval shooting drills, local provocation counter-operation measures near the NLL area, anti-submarine training, noncompliant vessel boarding and inspection drill, and other practical exercises that aimed to build the unit’s combat readiness.

 

Colonel Choi Young-chan, commander of the 13thCombat Battalion said, “With the live training sessions, the 1st Naval Fleet has been able to develop the perfect combat readiness posture in order to firmly and strongly punish any enemy when it provokes us. We will be ready to bury the enemy at sea, whatever the circumstances,” expressing his will to protect the East Sea and the NLL.
