Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop meets with NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation

Discussion on strengthening ROK-NATO security cooperation

On the afternoon of October 18, National Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop met with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Parliamentary Assembly Delegation* at the Ministry of National Defense, and exchanged views on major current issues of interest, such as the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Europe, and the direction of ROK-NATO security cooperation.

Since the meeting between President Yoon Seok Yeol and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg last June, the two sides evaluated that ROK-NATO cooperative relations had been strengthened through exchanges between high-level officials, including the first visit by a NATO Parliamentary assembly delegation to South Korea in five years.

Minister Lee urged NATO to continue to show interest and give support in achieving the denuclearization of North Korea and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula, explaining the recent security situation on the Korean Peninsula and the South Korean government's policies toward North Korea.
