1st Security and Space Development Working Committee


Committee will enhance the linkage to the national space development system and lay the groundwork to strengthen space capabilities for security purposes



On the morning of October 7, Vice Minister of National Defense Shin Beom-chul and Third Vice Director of National Intelligence Service Baek Jong-wook held the first Security Space Development Working Committee (hereinafter referred to as working committee).



The working committee was launched in November 2021 through an amendment to the 「Space Development Promotion Act」, with the mandate of deliberating on the space development project related to national security to prepare for the growing space risks and threats.


* Co-chaired by Vice Minister of National Defense and Third Vice Director of the National Intelligence Service, the working committee consists of five ex-officio members, including director-level officers from the Ministry of National Defense and National Intelligence Service, and eight commissioned members, including civilian members.



During today’s first meeting of the working committee, the members discussed the management plan for the working committee and the development plan for satellites in the area of security.



Various pending issues in the area of security and space will be discussed through the working committee. The working committee will enhance the linkage to the national space development system, accelerate the expansion of space capabilities for security purposes, and contribute to the development of national and defense space capabilities.
