Lee conducts spot check on the Maritime Task Flotilla Seven;

Lee urges soldiers on the Seoae Ryu Seongryong Aegis destroyer to be committed to maintaining operational readiness

In the afternoon of July 20, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop visited the Maritime Task Flotilla Seven (Flotilla Seven) to check on the military readiness posture and encourage its soldiers. After being briefed on the status of operations, Lee stressed the need to “have the capabilities and maintain a readiness to sternly deter and counter North Korean provocations by being able to be swiftly deployed anywhere, without being limited to specific waters.” Lee also asked the soldiers to “make efforts to be trusted by the people while keeping win-win relations with the community,” describing the Jeju civi-military port (where the Flotilla Seven is located) as a "symbol of unity and peace.”

Encouraging the soldiers of the Seoae Ryu Seongryong destroyer, a 7600-ton-class Aegis-equipped destroyer (DDG), Lee asked them to “maintain a firm readiness posture, and be significantly committed to maintaining operational readiness against ballistic missiles amid North Korea’s advancing nuclear and missile threats." He also stressed the importance of “their mental readiness and equipment operation capabilities, to prove the genuine value of the Aegis destroyer as an advanced weapon system.”
