Defense Minister inspects response to heavy rainfall

- Emphasized preventive measures for the safety of soldiers and preparation for supporting people such as rescue and recovery operations

On Thursday, July 13, Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup inspected response measures taken by the Defense Ministry and military branches for a heavy rain warning nationwide* and requested the establishment of an emergency support system. 
* As of July 11 (Tuesday), the Defense Ministry maintained a Level 1 EOC.

Minister Lee visited the battle control room of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and urged officers to make their utmost efforts to minimize damage as heavy rain was expected nationwide. 

He stressed that while placing a top priority on the safety of soldiers, preemptive measures should be taken to check vulnerable areas and set up a response system, and close communication with local governments to ensure fast rescue and recovery is critical to save the lives and property of people.
