The Defense Ministry held its 2024 Policy Advisory Committee meeting hosted by Minister Shin Won Sik at the MND Convention Center in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on July 5.

The Defense Ministry's Policy Advisory Committee aims to gather various expert opinions on defense policy and assist in policy development. The Defense Ministry has appointed more than 130 policy advisers, including former ambassador to the United States Ahn Ho-young and Naver Cloud Center head Ha Jeong-woo, to 12 subcommittees in areas such as policy planning, budget planning, personnel and welfare, combat power and defense innovation.

At the meeting, policy advisers presented their views on major defense policies and outstanding issues, based on their areas of expertise. They also exchanged views on the development of the military.

Adviser Ahn Ho-young said, “Building public consensus on the recently escalated security threats and policy efforts to address them is the role of the advisory committee members who are here.”

The Defense Ministry will operate the committee as a channel of communication between the people and the military as well as providing advice on defense policy.

Defense Minister Shin Won Sik said, “The Defense Ministry will realize peace through strength based on an overwhelming defense readiness posture, the ROK-U.S. Alliance, and solidarity with friendly nations,” and urged the members of the Policy Advisory Committee to continue to take an interest in and provide advice on the development of defense policy so that the military can grow in line with public expectations and external changes.
