Vice Minister of National Defense Hwang In-mu discussed defense cooperation
with the Czech Deputy Secretary of Defense

Vice Minister of National Defense Hwang In-mu entered into a Korea-Hungary General Security of Military Information Agreement with Hungarian Undersecretary of Defense Vargha TAMÁS on December 3 (based on Czech local time).

Vice Minister Hwang had a bilateral talk with Czech Deputy Secretary of Defense Jakub Landovsky during the 1st Korea-Visegrad Group Summit Meeting held in the Czech Republic, which he was attending as a member of Korean delegation. The Visegrad Group is a Middle Europe regional institution consisting of 4 countries – the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

The General Security of Military Information Agreement, concluded by the Vice Minister Hwang and Deputy Secretary TAMÁS, is the first defense agreement the two countries have ever entered into, and is considered as the first step toward practical defense cooperation, as an institutional strategy for protecting military classified information exchanged during future national defense and defense cooperation.

In addition, Vice Minister Hwang discussed pending issues related to national defense and defense cooperation between the two countries, cyber security and the nation’s peacekeeping operations with the Deputy Secretary Landovsky. Both parties expressed their concerns over the unstable international situation, citing the recent Paris terror attacks, and agreed to act jointly to combat terrorism and extremism in the global community. The Czech Deputy Secretary indicated his full support for our peaceful unification policy, as well as our policy regarding North Korea.
