Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Science and ICT to join hands for successful implementation of 「AI and software education for soldiers」

Two ministries plan to conduct education to provide support for the self-development of soldiers and their employment and business start-up efforts

Two ministries plan to foster manpower over the next five years; fifty thousand industrial reserve personnel in the areas of AI and software, one thousand military experts

The Ministry of National Defense (MND, Minister Suh Wook) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister Yim Hye-sook) said in a statement that they have a plan to foster one thousand military AI experts who can take the lead in a transition to a military structure focused on high technologies, as well as fifty thousand industrial reserve personnel for the next five years by 2026 by providing customized AI and SW education to soldiers on active duty from 2022. 

To support the plan, the MND and the MSIT signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to successfully carry out the AI and software (SW) education for soldiers, and launched a task force team to push for the strengthening of the defense AI and SW capabilities at the Army 5th Corps (located in Idong-myeon, Pocheon-si) on Tuesday, October 26.

This signing of the MOU and launch of a task force team is part of a follow-up action to the ｢MOU for the realization of Digital New Deal and Smart National Defense)｣ between the two ministries signed Tuesday, August 17, with the aim of pushing for AI and SW education for soldiers in a specific and systematic way.
