1st Korea-US Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Cooperation Committee


- consultation on policies between high-level officials to promote defense ICT cooperation



On August 4, 2021 (Korean time), the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea and the US Department of Defense held the 1st Korea-US ICT Cooperation Committee.



The meeting was attended by key officials in the field of defense ICT from both countries, including Han Hyun-soo, the head of the Ministry of National Defense Planning and Coordination Office of the Republic of Korea Ministry of National Defense, and John Sherman, the Informatization Officer of the US Ministry of National Defense.



Moving forward, the two sides have agreed to change the name of the meeting to the ‘Korea-US ICT Cooperation Committee’ to better reflect its purpose, which is mutually beneficial policy consultations in the field of defense ICT.



The two countries agreed to continue discussing policies on supplying loans to realize the mutual policy objectives and to generate practical outcomes.
As part of this effort, the two sides revised the agreement so that the Korea-US ICT Cooperation Committee could continue to function as a high-level policy consultation channel. In particular, the agreement explicitly specifies their mutual awareness that the Korea-US ICT Cooperation Committee supervises and coordinates defense ICT policy consultations between the two nations.
