Defense Ministers of Republic of Korea and Italy hold phone discussion

Minister of National Defense Suh Wook and his Italian counterpart Lorenzo Guerini discussed ways the two countries can cooperate on exchanges in the area of defense during phone talks held at the request of Minister Guerini on the afternoon of July 28.

Commemorating the 70th anniversary of Italy’s participation in the Korean War, Suh expressed gratitude for Italy’s participation and called for Italy’s steadfast support for Korea's efforts to promote the peace process on the Korean Peninsula. Guerini responded that Italy will continue to support the ROK’s North Korea policy, expressing his expectations for progress in the situation on the peninsula.

Meanwhile, the two ministers shared the view that it is quite meaningful for both countries that the bilateral defense cooperation pact takes effect this June after being reached during our leader’s visit to Italy in 2018. With the defense cooperation pact as momentum, they agreed to further invigorate bilateral cooperation in a range of fields, including maritime security, counterterrorism, cyber security, and defense industry.
