Minister of National Defense Suh Wook meets with US Strategic Commander

 On July 14, Minister of National Defense Suh Wook exchanged opinions with US Strategic Commander Charles A. Richard on the security situation in the region and on the Korean Peninsula, and the deterrence posture of the alliance between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the United States (US). 

Stressing the importance of maintaining close cooperation between the defense authorities of the two countries to deter North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats, Suh called for the US Strategic Command to play an active role in strengthening the deterrence posture of the ROK-US alliance.

 With regard to the US's extended deterrence commitments to the ROK, which were reaffirmed by President Biden in the ROK-US summit held last May, the commander of the US Strategic Command stressed the completeness of the Command’s readiness posture.
