On Thursday, June 24, Minister of National Defense Suh Wook visited the war remains excavation site at Arrowhead Ridge near Cheorwon, Gangwon-do, as the two and half years of war remains excavation work has been wrapped up.

During his visit, Suh checked the military readiness posture and the implementation of the ‘September 19 Military Agreement.’ He also presided over an event to mark the wrapping-up of the war remains excavation work on the South side of Arrowhead Ridge.

“This excavation work at Arrowhead Ridge has served as a cornerstone to build a new peace on the Korean Peninsula, as well as the best attempt to reward the sacrifices and devotions of patriotic heroes,” Suh said.

Suh also expressed his expectations, saying that “amid our continued efforts to encourage the North to respond to the inter-Korean joint excavation upon the ’September 19 Military Agreement,’ I hope to put the joint excavation project into action at Arrowhead Ridge as early as possible.”

As of June 24, the military has wrapped up the excavation work on the South side of Arrowhead Ridge, which was conducted for about two years since April 2019.

Following the excavation work on the South side of Arrowhead Ridge, the military has a plan to expand it to cover the White Horse Ridge in the Demilitarized Zone from the second half of the year.
