The 110th Fighter Squadron (hereinafter 110th Squadron), 11th Fighter Wing, had its 16-5th Buddy Wing training with the US 36th squadron, the 51st air wing, at Osan base from 7th to 10th of June.

The purpose of Buddy Wing is for the Korean and US air forces to share tactics and techniques, and improve their combined mission capability. The air forces have held the training since 1991, through exchanging visits to each other’s squadron.

This session was particularly meaningful because it was a chance for the participating fighting forces, ROK 110th and US 36th Squadron, to build up their teamwork through the combined training in advance of Red Flag Alaska, a multinational air force combined training to be held on the US Mainland in October.

For this training, there were 4 aircrafts, ROK F-15K, and 29 personnel, including 10 pilots and maintenance and support staff, participating, and they had a tactical discussion about mission planning related to combined flight and Red Flag Alaska training, such as formation forces operation under multiple ground-to-air threats, with the US Air Force 36th squadron.

Lieutenant Thomas Nichols of the 51st Air Wing said, “This buddy wing training is very meaningful in strengthening the 20-year-long alliance between our air forces. I hope to share mission completion related know-how and further improve our fighting and mission capability through this training.”
