With sweat running down them in beads, cadets of the Armed Forces Nursing Academy are participating in an Intensive Readiness Training (IRT) to maximize their field nursing knowledge and skills, despite the 36 degree heat wave .

Having started on July 25, this 3-week training focused on ‘cultivating medical manpower who are ready for national disaster,’ an initiative under Government 3.0. Participating cadets have been cultivating their specialized nursing knowledge and skills through various practical training sessions and evaluations about behavioral procedure for combat readiness condition, opening medical facility, treatment and evacuation of massive patients and use of medical equipment as part of readiness for national disasters such as terrorist acts, natural disasters, the spread of new type of infection disease, etc.

Especially for this training period,
cadets run parallel with Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) in addition to IRT so that they can experience overall medical support activities from actual combat area to evacuation as well as marine nursing training in order to cultivate proper nursing capability for patients rising under special environment such as sea and underwater.

“Through systematic training to prepare for a range of security threats, I will develop into a more prepared nursing officer who is ready to fulfill my responsibility and role in times of national crisis,” 4th grade cadet Guk Yeon-hee said of her aspiration.
