[11th Army Division] Fantastic teamwork…a flawless river-crossing

Organized into combined arms forces…determined for victory

Lion brigade, the 11th Army Division, developed the actual river-crossing and upgraded their assault river crossing ability as part of their operational plans enforcement training.

Held at Bukhangang river in Hwacheon County, Gangwon-do, for two days from last 10 to 11, the training was organized into and conducted by combined arms forces – two mechanized infantry companies, one tank company, the rivercrossing company of the 2nd engineer brigade and military engineer, air defense, CBR and maintenance platoons centering on Chungmu battalion, a subordinate force of the brigade for perfect river-crossing operation. It was carried out through an 80-kilometer long distance movement, an assault river crossing of armored vehicles, tanks and normal vehicles raft rivercrossing, with a focus on fulfilling operational plans capability at real area through perfect river-crossing training.

To prevent safety or environmental accidents, the unit installed oil fences using bridge erection boats (BEB) before the training with the help of the 2nd engineer brigade. As well, the lifesaving team, 1st Marine division, checked the depth of Bukhangang water level through a close study of the riverbed, and anchored safety buoys within the rivercrossing sections.

Colonel Moon Ki-su, Lion brigadier, said, “Given the growing concerns over enemy provocations before THAAD deployment and Korea-U.S. combined training, this training was a good opportunity to cultivate our confidence that we can fight and defeat the enemy.”
