Korean and U.S. female junior officers met together for the first time as the principal of Korea Field Artillery School, Major General Oh Jung-il, invited commissioned officers of 210 Firepower Brigade and discussed a plan regarding the development of the education system on April 1.

Six Korean female junior officers, including Second Lieutenant Hong Ji-hye, and seven from the U.S. Army in particular got a lot of attention. As the very first female gunners ever, Korean female soldiers have been taking the OBC since they joined the army last month.

Both sides' officers shared their opinions such as use of female gunners and development plan for them, and difficulties they face as female gunners and solutions to overcome the difficulties. Second Lieutenant Hong said, “I could understand the U.S. female gunners' culture through this meeting with these U.S. female officers. As the very first female gunner in Korea, it was precious time for me to set up the way forward.”

The meeting of these two armies came at the military affairs agreement that the Korean artillery school entered into with the U.S. 210 firepower brigade in February of last year. The 210 firepower brigadier, Colonel Lawson, and subordinate commanders of artillery battalion who visited the school appreciated the wagon, Korea’s first multiple launcher, and broadened their understanding of our military’s artillery weapon system, touring a museum and school-museum of history.
