Korea-U.S. High-level Meeting for switching over “wartime control”

MND said on August 3, the second Korea-U.S. High-level Meeting for switching over wartime operational control based on conditions will be held in the U.S. in Washington, D.C., on August 6 and 7.

The meeting is part of an agreement that Korean and U.S. defense ministers made to carry forward a follow-up discussion by running a high-level consultative group at the 13th Asia Security Council (Shangrila dialogue) in Singapore at the end of May, 2014.

This would be the second meeting since Korean Deputy Defense Minister Ryu Je-seung and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia David Helvey held the first High-level Meeting in Seoul on June.

“With the aim of basic agreement about switching over wartime control based on conditions at the 46th Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) to be held in October, we will take close consultation through this High-level Meeting and Korea-U.S. Integrated Defense Dialogue (KIDD) to be held this September,” a MND relevant official said.
